Is this anywhere near Assumption Island where the Indian Government want to build a military base?

Yes, it is. The military base might not be built. The parliament here rejected the proposals. :D

We just return from an awsone and very difficult Aldabra Expedition today. Hereby we also visited Asumption Island.
At the Moment there live not more than one handfull People and many introduced subadult Aldabra tortoises.
Here some spectacular drone pics, even we had some very strong south eastern winds:

The airstrip is 1600m long and very rarely used by quite expensive charter planes of the Island development Company. From Mahe it is more then 1000km and the plane must bring ist own gasoline for the return flight over the endless ocean!
Bevore start/Landing the few staff People has to remove the many tortoises from the runnway!
i think this is unique in the world!!

So we prefer to do the Expedition by sailing boat, even the Transfer from Mahe to Aldabra Group takes 5 days in every direction!!

@Jemo do you have any photos/information on any kind of plants on Aldabra which has 'adapted/evolved' due to the grazing of the tortoises?
