Hello! I’m new to the forum!
I brought home an Aldabra two months ago and I’ve noticed some indentation along its sides-costal scutes. The rest of his growth appears smooth. Has anyone experienced this? Or might know the cause? Thanks.
Diet consists of Mazuri tortoise chow and spring mix. Humidity 70%+

Looks pretty normal to me. Actually, I think he looks really good.
You should really try feeding more than spring mix and Mazuri. These guys grow crazy fast, do you plan on keeping him in Brooklyn long?

I don't see anything abnormal. I agree a better diet is needed asap. They also need humidity to grow smooth and lots of space to roam.

Similar thing happened to one of my hatchling. It was lack of moisture for me. I contacted the seller and was told to soak the tortoise daily and increase humidity to 80%. precautions was risking respiratory infection but could be prevented with proper ventilation and right substrate. Some of the indented spots came back up, some didn't. but it's hard to tell now that my tortoise is over 2 years old. There has been no new indentation since then.

ps. that particular tortoise hardly drank water so I also offered small amount cucumber/watermelon once a week to encourage water intake in addition to soaking. Especially now that I moved everyone to a larger enclosure which makes it difficult to keep humidity up.

I kept my baby Aldabras in an enclosed high humidity ( 90+%) environment at all times if they are not outside, give them daily soaks, lots of grass and weeds, orchard grass hay, any kind of greens -( turnip, mustard, collard ), cut up green bell pepper and or cactus pads and mix with the mazuri, which I also pre soaked to a mush.
My 2 aldabras have been growing at a rate of over 3 lbs per month now and are about 23.5 lbs.
My Aldabra , General, was 1500g on Dec 15,2020, he is 10140g on Dec 13, 2021 .
