Am I supposed to register my desert tortoise ?

Hello all! I recently acquired a 100+ year old desert tortoise when I purchased a home that “came with a turtle”. Am I supposed to register or get a permit for having her? Not sure of the rules. I recently learned that she was a desert tortoise through this forum and learned there are several laws protecting her. Please help. And enjoy the picture of Frederica

Yes. Check online for 'California Turtle and Tortoise Club Chapters.' Find one near you and contact them. They will help you with registering the tortoise.

Looks lovely, when you get more settled I really recommend a shallow warm soak inca high sided container and a brush clean up on the shell. Ensure fresh water available 24 x7 along with fresh leaves. Enjoy your new tort and keep us posted we rarely get 100 year olds on here.
