I'm wondering if anyone has used any good "weather proof" or weather resistant heat lamps and bulbs? If so which brands have you had success with? I'm looking for something that will give me a basking spot on days when it's rainy and cool. Thanks!

I have not. However, I did put a CHE outside last fall I think it was and I fixed a snow saucer over it so it couldn't get wet. I also made sure to droop the cord so no water could run down it and onto the CHE.

Thanks Wellington, I was thinking that I'd likely have to build something around it to protect it, but I was hoping that someone here has had some luck with a heat lamp in a very wet area so that in the event that it did get a little wet it wouldn't short it out.

Last winter I also used a CHE suspended above a 18x18 concrete paver. I put a round section of hardware cloth around the CHE to keep the torts from getting too close. It worked like a basking area.

Thanks Charlie! How high did you suspend it above the paver?

Bryan ...it's so much the bulb but the actual fixture. Here is a couple GREAT links to several different types of outdoor Water tight fixtures for some ideas. . No matter what fixture you choose , remember to use a GFI outlet ....

Thanks JD! I never thought of that but I could always use this http://www.hammondmfg.com/1427CG.htm in the side of a NEMA enclosure for the cord to keep it pretty much water proof.

I used a regular lamp clamp designed for heat lamps.
