Hmmmm.... looks very close.
I just googled Mexican clover and all the pictures showed 6 petal white flowers. The one in my yard is only 4 "petals" ... and the new leaves tend to grow from the inside of the previous leaf ... the Mexican clover looks like it grows more of a standard stem.

I'll try and take some better pictures tomorrow. You have definitely found something close Ms @TriciaStringer

I'll look at the roots or branching tomorrow in the daylight!

And dang it ... I was really hoping it was good for him, he goes right for it every time he is outside and it is taking over the grass in a few areas [emoji22]

Sure looks and sounds like buttonweed to me.
I couldn’t find anything at all about it’s safety for eating.
It’s a terrible pest and has wiped areas of our lawn. ☹️
