Are wooden enclosures for indoors better than other materials for baby tortoises?

Great, I am a handyman of sort & enjoy the whole process of do it yourself DIY stuff. Although buying a beautifully ready made enclosure of any material is nice & it's well designed for the purpose of your pet, but making my own I can decide on the materials mix & match & more importantly the size you want for your tortoises as they grow. A custom made enclosure by someone else is too rich for me at this point..
