Hello!

Hello

I found a new weed in the alley but haven't found any apps or websites that can ID it. Any ideas? I'm in southern AZ.

I do have milk thistle growing in the alley too. The tortoise table website said to not feed because it is a sedative, but I've read in some posts that torts can eat them. Does it depend on the tort? I have a young sulcata.

Thanks for the help!

It looks familiar but I’d need to see the actual plant in addition to the flowers.

Wow I am grumpy with the Tortoise Table this week, all the thistles are good food. Their particular concern here is what could happen with one that’s grown with a lot of fertilizer, which I doubt you have in your alley even if I agreed with them. If your alley gets regular road traffic and/or dogs often walk through, however, those would be reasons not to feed it. Both can be pollutants and those are worth avoiding.

Ok thanks! She does like the thistle. No fertilizer but we do have cats that go through the alley. I'll see if I can get a better picture.

The key is not to feed entire meals of the milk thistle every single day.

A small amount mixed in to the other foods a couple times a week will be a great way to add some variety. I've fed milk thistle for years with no problem. You can soak it in a 5 gallon bucket to rinse off any cat pee or alley dirt.

I don't recognize your other plant either...

Right! This forum has been so helpful in listing foods for her. She gets globe mallow, hibiscus, petunia flowers, dandelion, regular mallow, fescue, curly mesquite (local AZ grass), bermuda grass and some London rocket. I'm working on creosote but it smells pretty strong. Pretty soon we will have mulberry leaves.

Forgot to post this weed. It's desert marigold. Is this safe?
