Just some quick shots of my baby and juvenile habitats. I use real plants and sometimes there are mishaps so I have had to recently replant both enclosures. The babies are going to receive an upgrade from a 20 long to a 40 breeder. I added some of my outdoor garden area as well. The outdoor garden area is where the Russians live. This entire area was devoid of plants three and a half months ago. I added some baby purple grass, tomatoes, hollyhock, ice plants, three types of moss, monkey grass and spread a good amount of pasture mix seeds. Now it is over run and provides hours of relaxation for me and my neighbor.

I love your "Texas" waterer! Where on earth did you find that?

I start out the baby box turtle season with beautiful, well-planted habitats, and after about a month they're plain and devoid of plants. I have to root around in the dirt to find the babies and it messes up the root systems, causing the plants to die. I don't understand how TerryO keeps her habitats looking so pretty.

Baby box turtles are just so special. Love your babies!!!

Thanks for the pics! How do you keep your baby boxies heads out of the water? (How do you make it more shallow)

The baby boxies swim like fish. They keep their own heads up, lol. Yvonne, the pool shaped like Texas is a bird bath I bought at Lowes. I just put it on the ground instead of on the pedestal. I also have the problem of killing the plants looking for them. For the babies, I just don't dig for them too much and I plant over and over. The juveniles come running when I feed them so I hardly ever have to dig for them.

You dont worry about them not being able to get out?
Nope. I use increasingly larger terra-cotta saucers. the turtles learn how to get out of them without tipping. I have some special needs babies that had a harder time of it. For them I build up the sides with the pebbles.
