EVERYONE, BABY RUNT IS 4 POUNDS TODAY! . It's been a thrill to see this once 3 year old sulcata weighing in at 4 ounces 11 months ago grow into this beautiful , healthy, and thriving 4 year old sully weighing in at 4 pounds today!!!!!!!! I had referred to Baby Runt as a he, but now I see that he is more likely a she! Her tail is tiny and her plastron is rounded. So, in celebration of her 4 pounds and 4 years of life, I'd like members to submit a new name for Baby Runt since she's not a runt for long.
She had a full examination by an exotic specialist who evaluated her metabolic bone disease. The vet said she should grow into a good size sully if conditions continue as they are. Her blood work came out all normal, and she has no parasites. The MBD has affected her backbone, and it's equivalent to being a hunchback for the rest of her life. Her top and end scutes along her backbone are the most affected; however, she's grown enough to stretch her neck out to the point where she can almost eat her food without assistance.
Her plastron is soft near the tail area, but that will harden in time with proper husbandry. For the meantime, she's still being hand fed twice daily. Frankly, I'm loving it! So, let's see some new names for Baby Runt! Congratulations my darlingSmile
Btw, I have also posted pics of her on the scale, in the palm of my hand, eating red mazuri, and in the garden which I intend to submit in the yearly calendar contest.
Hurray!!!!
In the palm of my hand Smile
Eating from my hand SmileSmileSmile
Look how big her mouth gets. Here is where I often get nipped.
She's finished eating.
This is the pic I intend to submit in contest. It will say, "I'm a little yellow. I think, I think I can be a yellow hibiscus!"
I hope you enjoyed the update
