you can if you do it safely. what that means is to quarantine properly. keep them 100% totally separated for a min of 6 months. we recc 1 year now. use gloves when handling them. do not ever share anything. things like that. if you follow a VERY VERY strict quarantine then you can safely bring someone in without any effect on others you have. this does not mean that one will of course be healthy but it will prevent spread of anything to others you may have.
the only thing sadly to make them more comfortable is pain meds and or and i DO NOT say this lightly euthanasia. if this is aw its is painful. it causes necrosis to tissues inside, bone, muscle, organs etc.
they should not really be allowed to roam outside. i know that may not be what you want to hear but this can cause spread to wildlife and can cause spread to other animals. austwickia can be found in soil, water etc. so even in water run off.
i feel terrible every time i see a baby with this knowing there is nothing that can really be done and after seeing first hand up close necropsy done and how bad it was inside it hurts me to see a baby with this. i hate all this and i wish there was a way to eliminate it all.
