That might be septicemia, Crystal. Any chance you can give the vet a call on Monday and tell him about it? Explain that his bottom shell (plastron) looks like you can see blood through it and one of your acquaintances has suggested it MIGHT be septicemia.

I have never seen that before, sounds like Yvonne knows what she's talking about.

I'm no expert but I would lean towards yvonne's guess, I would go to a vet ASAP. Septicemia is usually an infection inside of the body, and I believe it could cause blood in the stools. I would get egyptoandans guess on this as well he should be able to give a better diagnosis.

did the vet see it? how thorough was the exam, if a vet does not see something it can't diagnose it.

Call your vet tomorrow morning. Until then, keep him nice and warm, and offer him whatever he likes to eat. I wouldn't worry about what it might be, wait to see what your vet has to say. Is he on medication now?

Just reread your original post. I think you were sent a very sick little tortoise. The seller may or may not have known. There's been something going on with him since the day he arrived. I'm trying not to sound callous, but I think you should demand a refund, or replacement. You've only had him for a short time, and he's been sick the entire time. You're starting to accumulate vet bills, and the outcome is unknown. What is the seller's stand?

I have seen several tortoises that were septic, however never one that looked like that. Is his skin on the upper part of the legs and the rear end redish or pinkish?

No, what I'm seeing in the picture is not bruising. It deff. looks like septicemia to me and that's not bruising. Its an infection or blood poisoning throughout the body.

Yes this is septicemia. :( Like Yvonne said this is either/and a body infection (with kidneys and/or liver) or blood poisoning from the kidneys and/or liver not working and cleaning the blood.
If it's an infection, than it can be cleared up. If the kidneys and/or liver aren't functioning well enough to clean the blood, than there isn't much any one can do. :(
Get to a vet ASAP.

What are you going to do if your new tortoise is sick or becomes sick? Throw it away also? If your income is so low that you cannot afford a vet visit, how can you afford the lights and food and everything that your tortoise needs?

The vet is not going to take your tortoise. They are not a shelter for animals that need care, they are a business and medical facility. You need to think this through. If you can't care for this baby, how in the world can you care for another?

I am saddened and appalled that you are more worried about getting a new tortoise than saving the life of this one. If your child were sick, would you just leave them at the doctors office and then go get pregnant? I think not.

Look, i called on saturday to the vet they said the exotic specialist cant come in til monday and that it showed on his record he does have a infection. as the vet said. so if "i cant remember who" is right and his kidneys and liver are shutting down and that there is not much i can do. i am taking him in on monday to be examed and like the guy on the phone said that they may have to put him to sleep then i am getting another tortoise. excuse me for not putting every little detail. i didnt know you were so critical. i already scedules apts and i am trying to save the poor kid. so please stop saying rude things. sorry for low detail.

Forgive us we are passionate about tortoises and don't mean to be rude about anything. It's just that when you asked for help you obviously left out a major portion of the story. Is he on medicine now? What kind if he is? If we knew that then Danny or Yvonne could probably give you better statistics on his survival. Poor little guy, I'm sorry that this has happened to him. :(
