A couple of weekends ago it was really cold so I brought them back inside. Unfortunately I forgot to clean out the food dish. So when I took them back out it was quite fragrant. Then to my surprise one of them put there head really close to the ground as if she was smelling around. Then she went straight for the food and started eating away. I stopped her and cleaned it out but she still kept smelling around the whole enclosure. So I was wondering if box turtles have good sense if smell or she was just being goofy.

From what I understand, they have a great sense of smell and sight for locating food.

Yep, they have excellent smell, and good color vision, too.

YEs! If I put a dish of strawberries out within 20 sec. they all come from where ever they are to the dish. They do this especially with whitefish and venison too.

I was reading an article somewhere (most likely on this forum) that said turtles and tortoises have one of the highest amount of olfactory receptors in the animal world.
