Hi!

I got a few pictures of my RT's tail. I thought that she was a girl, but now I'm not so sure. The pictures are not of the best quality, but I thought maybe I could get an opinion. If they are not clear enough, I'm willing to keep trying.

Also, what are the best shots to get an idea of age? I'd like some opinions on that as well.

Thanks for all your help,
Karyn

looks like a cute little girl's tail to me. Russian boys have a really big tail! Don't know about the age.

Looks like a young male to me Karyn :) Sorry Yvonne :D He's just not old enough yet to have the long tail.

Go with Danny's answer, Karyn. He is really good at I.D. and sexing.

Thanks, guys!

I was afraid that "she" might be a male. I guess it might be time for a name change. My third graders (Natasha is a class pet) would like to name her "Egg." (I have a few who think they are future comedians.) Egg is NOT a name that I can live with.... Any suggestions? Maybe something unisex so the male/female thing does not matter.

Since he's a class pet, its only fair for the class to name him. Have a contest, with the name that receives the most votes the winner. And maybe a special treat for the kid who suggested that name.

(Personally, I kinda' like the name "Egg." It has a nice ring to it!!)

OK, OK. We also have a couple of goldfish in the class which we did have a contest/vote to name. (Egg lost by only a few votes.) I'll concede.......the name will come from the class.

Thanks :D

Isn't another good way to tell boys from girls the way the back of the shell dips down? If it is lower in the back, that means boy right? Because from the female RTs I have seen, when photographed from behind, you can see their back legs and tail more so than on boys.

Am I close to the mark here?

Meg~That's what I was thinking. It was that dip in the back of "his" shell that got me thinking she could possibly be a he.

Also, looks like the new name will be Speedy or Speedy Gonzalez (which the kids love to call him) or Speed Bump.......kids are too funny. In any case, it appears that Speedy--in some way--will stick. Until tomorrow at least.

Thanks for your input.
