Hi all,
I have a 4 1/4inch Russian that I've had for about a year now and the pet store told me that it's a boy but now I'm thinking not. Can anyone help me determine the sex of my tort!? Also, it hasn't really grown much since I've gotten it.

Without wanting to be contrarian, I am going to disagree, and say this is a young male. At 4 1/4" it is still quite early to tell, my male didn't really get his long tail until he was almost 5" long.
This one's tail is pointy and the vent is slit shaped, and towards the end.
A female would have a much stubbier tail, and the vent would be more asterisk-shaped (*) and closer to the body.

I've attached a diagram.

Looks like my immature male did before his tail got what I call gross, lol. So I would say the best answer for this one would be not sure if one can tell yet?

I would say young male as well. Pretty big tail for a female.
