Not a tortoise its a turtle. It looks like a snapping turtle to me.

It needs water ASAP. They live in water. Can you fill up a tub for it until you find the owner?

Do NOT release it into the wild. They are NOT native to France.

That was my guess too, it's a LONG way from home though.

They tend to calm down when submerged in water; perhaps they feel a bit less threatened. I still wouldn't bathe with it...
