Can you guess what Herman is doing in the first picture ? A clue.........he is not trying to escape !

He was sound asleep !! He only woke up when he heard the buzz of my camera zoom. He went back to sleep in that position, still in the sun, for about another 30 minutes.

Mine often angle their shells to get optimum exposure from the sun, especially on a cool morning. They definitely end up in some weird positions when doing so!
