Anyone know if the Chameleon plant, Houttuynia cordata, would be a safe addition to a varied tortoise diet? I just got some from a coworker and was wondering if I should plant it where my sulcata or hingebacks will be able to get to it. It is native to Asia and is apparently used in salads for human consumption both there and in Europe, though it is noted to have a bitter taste.

According to this site.

The flower is not toxic, but it says nothing about the leaves/stems.

This website says it's very invasive though and spreads/grows quickly.

Yes, thanks for the link. At least now I know it doesn't contain oxalates.

As for the 'invasive' plant angle, I'd seen that too, but my coworker says our winters here do a good job keeping it in check. Apparently it doesn't like to freeze.
