Where do you buy your Mazuri? Any good deals? I have tortoise seed mix in the process of growing but also wanted to feed my hatchlings Mazuri once a week. I hear mixed reviews so any info is needed, good or bad.

If you are looking for lowest price a feed store would be your best option, mine sells 5 and 25 pound bags.

I bought some off of eBay from spikethebest. It was ten pounds for $13 plus around $15 for shipping.

Unless you are a distributor, $27 a bag is the best you can do!

@Greg: How many lbs is one of those bags you got there? Where do you buy your Mazuri? The website I listed above sells 25lbs for $27 and I haven't found any other site that does cheaper.

25 pounds per bag. I purchase hay, incubators, water bowls, and mazuri from our local feed/farm store. $27 a 25 lb bag is what we pay

but one 25 pound bag is Humongous! well at least for us!

Our little tykes eats about 1-2 pieces in 2 days . Soo with the amount that we have currently.. it can double up as substrate and still have plenty left over!! hahaha

But at least you're lucky it's widely available in the US. The authorised resellers closest to us in Malaysia is Singapore.. so we have to actually make our trips to another country (it's about a 4 hours drive) to get our stock. Luckily the reseller there was kind enough to offer us distributorship of Mazuri.. so we're trying to work something out to get it in cheaper for Malaysian torts. But it's still SUPER expensive as we have to ship it in from the US.

Perhaps you can share the cost of a 25lbs bag with some of your neighbourhood torts to save more money.

or you can have a dozen or so Giant Torts Like ALdabraman :D and have bags in his store!

:tort: I know that some of my local herp club members have gone in together and purchased a large bag and divided it up.

yeap! that's the best way to go. Just divide it between yourselves. it's much cheaper that way and you get fresher mazuri. (ALthough not common, Mazuri may have bugs and stuff after a year and it is recommended that the best before date is 1 year after manufacture). but if you freeze it or refridgerate it it'll last longer.

Thanks for the tip! I will remember to freeze it as I was looking for the big bags but I don't think I will need it with 2 little hatchlings...maybe I will look for a smaller bag if they carry one.

Does anyone know why people don't recommend this to your torts? I asked a supplier if they carried Mazuri and they said they would not recommend feeding that to the torts? Is it because the ingredients? I read the ingredients and it is def not all natural...can anyone explain the pros and cons, any info is greatly appreciated! THANKS ALL =)

I believe most of it comes from the old-school mentality that it contains too much protein and too much protein causes pyramiding. We are now discovering that this isn't exactly the case.

It is one of the better commercial diets out there for tortoises. Mazuri is used not only by pet owners, but by many zoos as well. There's a reason for that: it's a relatively good diet. If I recall correctly, it was formulated specifically for zoos for Galaps and Aldabra tortoises.

One drawbacks is that it is soy-based, which isn't as natural. Some say that it can be addictive, and not good as a primary food source. On the flip side, many say they raise their tortoises on an exclusive Mazuri diet with no issues at all.
