hey everyone, I am so excited to finally find somewhere to get good information about my tortoises we have two that came from the same creep. they are 18 months old. my son is a huge TMNT fan so the names of our two are Donatello and Michelangelo or donny and mikey for short. Donny is the bigger one of the two and they are a great pet to have. we are so excited as we finally live in a area where we can build an outdoor living space as we have lived in townhomes for the duration of their life. i am really excited to learn more and learn more proper ways to take care of them.

Welcome Byron, Donatello, Michelangelo and family! Can't wait to see your new outdoor enclosure. They came from the same creep? Was there a bad experience with their source?

Hello and Welcome. We have lots of great threads for your shelled friends care. Be sure to check them out under the sulcata section. Also be sure to build two enclosures as tortoises don't do good at all in pairs and one will suffer.

Thanks everyone, so we bought the two together from some people who were moving and they said they were within a week together. So no bad experience with them or anything like that. I'm curious several of you have said not to house them together. Why is that? We have always had them together (knew nothing different) they both eat we take them outside occasionally ( when weather permits) and the smaller one is actually the one that eats more. Would if I have more that two? We plan to get a couple more as well.

hello, Byron, and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum to you, Donatello and Michelangelo.:)
Please read http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/beginner-mistakes.45180/

Tortoises do not do well in pairs, some bullying is subtle and hard to spot, following one another, cuddling up, staying close to each other and so on. And violence could well occur suddenly.

They need to be separated.
Groups can work if you have lots of space and one male with a few females.
Even then you may have problems and need to isolate one or more.
