Hello forum friends,

Does anyone know if slugs and snails (common UK ones) can cause any health / other issues to my two Russians?

They are getting into their outdoor enclosure at night and last night one snail even had the audacity to be sitting on top of my small torts shell. Maybe it had shell size envy!

Naturally, I am going to look into ways to prevent them from getting inside, but they are just about everywhere in the UK.

All advice much appreciated, thanks. Paris & Torts. :tort::tort:

I believe that as long at the slugs and snails haven't been poisoned with a slug killer it should be fine to leave them be. I have redfoots so any snails and slugs in my yard get eaten.

I've always been told Russians don't eat any bugs or animal matter but I'm not 100% that it don't happen in the wild anyway. I do encourage my Cherryhead's too.

Up to this point I've been keeping with the advice given on Kamp Kenan.

I wouldn't worry about the snails and slugs unless you try to get rid of the snail using snail killer baits. Snails and slugs will eat uneaten food and some of the poop from the torts, so just look at them as the cleaning crew :)
