Confused. New 2 month sulcata

I just recently got a 2 month old baby African sulcata. I've done very much research before getting him, listened to the people at the pet store, and now have read through a lot on here and I'm so confused. So much contradicts itself and I don't want to keep baby Bowser in the wrong setting. What would an appropriate humidity range and temperature range be for his age? And should I be soaking him everyday?

Thank you.

Hi, and welcome to the forum! Read the threads shown at the top of the Sulcata section. There are several good ones specifically for new tortoise-keepers and young sulcatas.

Welcome. There's a great care sheet in the sulcata section you should follow for your little guy. Often times(majority) pet stores are very wrong. Not all but most of them are educating you incorrectly.

Welcome and take a look at my thread. Lots of very good info there from all the members here!! Good luck. And pointers I can give soak every day 15-45 min and give natural sun light as much as possible. I soak mine in the sun and he loves it.

Hello and welcome. For the last 3 decades or so, we have been told the wrong way to care for baby sulcatas. See they come from an area that is "arid" for part of the year, but there are a couple of problems with duplicating "arid" in our home enclosures. First and foremost, sulcatas don't hatch during the "arid" part of the year. They hatch during the rainy season. Its hot, wet, humid, and there are puddles, marshes and green growing food everywhere. Yes it is dry above ground for part of the year, but what does that have to do with anything related to sulfate care? They live UNDER ground during the dry season. Why don't the books ever mention this?

This is unfortunately "new" information and many tortoise folks have still not caught on. This forum is on the leading edge of an ever growing tidal wave of expanding tortoise knowledge.

And you need to house your babies separately. They do not want or need company. Pairs are usually problematic and one or both of them will suffer for being housed that way. See the thread below...

These threads will give you proven sound techniques that will help your babies thrive.
