To the International Turtle Community,

This is a mailing list update for publications from our massive TFTSG-organized and CRF-produced Chelonian Research Monographs project on Conservation Biology of Freshwater Turtles and Tortoises (CBFTT).

We have greatly expanded this mailing list from its original base of just CBFTT authors and subscribers and TFTSG members, to also include many additional international turtle researchers and conservationists, as well as global conservation professionals, thereby reaching out to as wide and important an audience as possible. As each new turtle species account or checklist in the CBFTT project is published online, we will send a pdf of the open-access article to everyone on this mailing list.

If you do not wish to receive these mailings from us, please let us know; or if you have colleagues who wish to sign up, please have them contact us at [email protected] to be placed on the mailing list. Feel free to forward this email and its attachment to other colleagues as appropriate.

Since initiating publication of the CBFTT project in 2008, and as of this account, we have now published a total of 77 accounts covering 99 recognized turtle and tortoise species and subspecies from 105 nations, plus 6 taxonomic checklists, with contributions by 136 authors and 139 photographers, for 1070 total pages of text.

We are pleased to announce that we have just published our annual comprehensive Checklist of Turtles of the World on 16 June 2014 as an online open-access publication at:

http://www.iucn-tftsg.org/checklist/

Attached is a copy of a doi-designated password-protected low-resolution pdf of the checklist. The official published version posted online is higher resolution, but large enough (ca. 30 MB) to make it unfeasible to distribute via email. Even the low-res version attached here is large (ca. 14 MB) and may not reach some people.

For people with mailboxes or servers that cannot receive such a large file, this email has no attached file and you will need to go to the website to download the checklist.

The large size is due to our having added detailed distribution maps in color for all 335 species covered in this checklist, as well as for a few subspecies. This year's list is also greatly expanded through the inclusion of many nomina nuda and nova, as well as subsequent usage new combination names.

This article and all other previously published accounts in the CBFTT monograph project may also be downloaded by following the appropriate links from: http://www.iucn-tftsg.org/cbftt/

We also produce high-resolution printed hardcopies of this and all other CBFTT accounts published online; these are available for purchase at http://www.chelonian.org/crm-no-5/.

Also, please check out our other offerings in the Chelonian Research Monographs series at: http://www.chelonian.org/crm/

including CRM 6, published in late 2013:

Turtles on the Brink in Madagascar: Proceedings of Two Workshops on the Status, Conservation, and Biology of Malagasy Tortoises and Freshwater Turtles. 2013. Edited by Christina M. Castellano, Anders G.J. Rhodin, Michael Ogle, Russell A. Mittermeier, Herilala Randriamahazo, Rick Hudson, and Richard E. Lewis.

In addition to the IUCN/SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group and Chelonian Research Foundation, the CBFTT monograph project has also benefited from support from the Turtle Conservation Fund and Conservation International.

Best,

Anders Rhodin
