my girlfriend really loves corgis and i've never been a big fan. granted it will be at least a couple years before she gets one, im wondering if anyone has any experience with them. do they have good personalities? are they very yippy and loud? what about health concerns with pure-bred corgis?

thanks!

Love them.. BUT they are high energy, need a job and can be barky and nippy. What are they bred for? Herding! Nipping at heals and barking to get things to move. Very smart. Big Dog in a little dog body. Love the ears!
Back issues. Can get overweight easily.
Go thru a good breeder.

Check out www.akc.org/breeds. I have known my share of corgis, both welsh and pembrook, and consider them great dogs but as Laura says they are stockdogs. As such they are highly intelligent, high energy dogs that that a gentle but firm hand. They need a job to use that brain of theirs. They are heelers and as such be prepared for getting heels nipped (not hard). I grow up with stockdogs(shelties), so their temperment is fine with me.
