Craigslist SCAMS

Beware.
I posted two items on Craigslist this evening and almost immediately I got contacts from many supposedly interested people.
Each asked if the items were still for sale.
Then each of them said that they weren't sure "if it was a real ad" and then said that they were sending me a 6 digit code and I should send it back to them to prove I'm "real".
It's still going on as I type this.... Must be 20 of them now.
I'm assuming that this is a phishing scam. One I've never encountered before.
I said "You got me. I AM a robot" then blocked each number.
What would sending the 6 digit number do?
A texting charge scam?
I don't get what the end game is.

Hmm I've never encountered that one before. I don't do any transactions on Craigslist unless they're willing to meet at a police station.

I researched and found others who encountered similar contacts.
Apparently they want a code from Google that they then use to set up a fraudulent account with your phone number.
It's pretty convoluted and confusing to me.
But must work pretty well for them.
I'm up to 34 calls now from 14 different phone numbers

I think this is relatively new.
I've reported it to Craigslist and am using Craigslist relay for ALL contacts. To contact me, they must go through Craigslist. It has slowed, but not stopped them.
One of the ads had my direct phone number.
About 2/3rds of the texts are from that ad.
They are slowing down now.
Thankfully.

I use Craigs list a lot, but never provide my phone or email in the ad. I always meet ppl 1/2 way in a major shopping area, etc. the only scammer I had was for a $250 teak trunk I was selling, a guy wanted to pay with a money order. I said cash....etc, insisted Money Order. Nope....too many scams with those. I just stopped interacting.
