Hi All,

Because the most room and money I can spare for Matteo’s indoor enclosure is 5’ x 2’, I’ve decided to build him a screen covered outdoor tortoise table. I have to elevate it to deter fire ants and snakes (I know they can climb, I’ll take measures to deter them/Vaseline on the legs, blocks on the posts, or the like).

Would a panel of 4’ x 8’ x 3/4” plywood suffice for the bottom if I use a post in each corner, one additional on the each of the long sides, and one in the center? I thinking of using birch plywood. I know it’s furniture grade, and thus expensive ($78) but I just read on here that it’s more resistant to rot. Cedar wood sets off my allergies, and I’m worried it would bother Matteo too.

Could I use 4” x 6” or 2” x 4” boards for the sides? And what for the posts on often wet ground?

How to seal or cover the inside to prevent rot? Any holes needed for drainage?

Also, people burn trash around here without warning, Is that a danger to torts?

Thanks.
