My 8 month old red foot has developed a dark area in the middle of the bottom of his shell. Is this the beginning of shell rot?

Absolutely not! That little guy has a perfect shell. The dark blotches are just normal pigment developing.
No worries.

Thanks! I'm just trying to make sure he stays healthy.
You can help to keep him from getting she'll rot by keeping humidity up, like they need, but the top layer of substrate dry. Usually this can be achieved by pouring the warm water intô the corners when trying to raise humidity. Being on wet substrate is a good way to get shelol rot.

I keep him on coconut fiber with damp sphagnum moss. I try just to keep it moist with out it being wet.
