Death of plants?

Was wondering if UV rays or heat is what kills plants, grass, weeds etc.

Living in Arizona, it's hard to keep delicate veggies alive for Donny to eat. All plants need sun to grow and thrive but being in the sun for to long burns/kills them, so I was thinking about getting nursery shade cloth to go over the veggies. You can get this cloth in many different sizes and 'transparency' from 30% uv block to 90% uv blocking.

So long story short, will this cloth work in my situation? Or are my plants dying due to the 100+ degree ambient temps?

As far as I understand. Plants grow very well in greenhouses and the uv cannot penetrate the plastic, or at least it is diminished a lot. So, I think I shade cloth would be fine to help shield from the heat of the sun.

Direct sun just dries plants out way too quickly. I probed the dirt surface yesterday and it was 145 degrees. Shade cloth will help the more delicate plants
