I'm working on plans for the summers enclosure for my Hermann's tort. Since she's a digger, I figure I need to extend the hardware cloth down into the dirt to recent her digging out and to prevent rats and raccoons from digging IN. How deep do you think I should go?

Or would it be better to completely line the bottom and the sides with continuous hardware cloth?

That should read "prevent" her from digging out, not "recent"!:-(

2 feet would likely do well if you have a digger...also, if your enclosure is large enough you could like the inside perimeter with the 12x12 pavers and that also helps to deter digging against the enclosure walls/fencing... Wait round and see what other info you get....the more the merrier :D
