How are your torts doing?
They are in critical care and bloods have shown that the injection had travelled around to every organ which are showing damage. The vet concerned has admitted fault but it's never going to make it right. I'm so scared they will die alone over a night when vets aren't there or on a Sunday when it's not open. We know there is very little hope but owe it to them to try everything within what is kind. We have a friend who is a palliative care vet so we are going to try and get them home or to hers as soon as we can so they have someone 24/7 incase they pass. She is speaking to the specialist today to discuss next steps. Take you for caring.

Doesn't sound good, but they are tuff little buggers and have a lot of love from their family working hard for them.
We all are wishing good luck for a great outcome.
Keep us posted.

i found a study on safe dosages of ivermectin in tortoises, it's from 1983. 1983 may be before ivermectin was available to veterinarians.... they knew ivermectin wasn't safe in turtles or tortoises from when it first became available.... i would not bring any animal, dog or cat to this practice, that vet should be fired...... this is beyond malpractice, it is stupidity, they all got to learn, but doing something that dumb would make you question they're ability to learn, you could not google "ivermectin dosage tortoise" and not be made aware of the fact it is highly toxic to chelonians.........dogs and cats often cannot be treated the same, sad commentary on the veterinary profession. your tortoises survival is probably dependent on the dosage used.

Toxicity and efficacy of ivermectin in chelonians

Update for all you kind people. The girls have turned a corner! They have been allowed home because they felt they had become depressed. My friend is a 24hr vet and is doing their meds out of hours. As soon as they came home they ate their first food and had a wee. A long way from being safe and £1200 so far - which believe me he will pay and they are expected to take 6 weeks to recover if they do. Thank you for all your support, first day without sad tears. They should reimburse your friend for helping you too. Plus your stress, punitive damages. My opinion. I delighted they are doing better.

So very happy to hear some good news.
However, keeping tortoises in pairs is very stressful on them and alone can cause illness and death. You may want to seperated them so they don't have the added stress to deal with
Tortoises don't want or need a friend, that's our own human needs and thoughts some people put on their tortoises, so it won't stress them to be by themselves, infact the exact opposite.
Also, looking ahead to their full recovery, they each need a minimum of a 4x8 foot enclosure and lighting changes need to be made and a clay saucer for water, big enough they can sit in it if they want.
Let's get them set up properly so they have the best chance possible for recovery.

Thank you for the advice, they are kept separated it was just for the picture to get them both in. Rightly or wrongly they are free range tortoises unless under their light. Thankfully in the last 36 years they've never been but thank you for the advice.

I would highly discourage letting them free roam your home, there’s been far too many horror stories and I would hate you to go through any further distress!

Being away from their heat source means they’re constantly being exposed to temperatures that are too low, smooth surfaces like laminate flooring will wreak absolute havoc on their hip joints.

There’s just numerous reasons it isn’t a good idea unfortunately, harmful floor cleaners, foreign objects being swallowed, getting stuck under things they shouldn’t like shelving or sofas, low temperatures, no uv, getting hit by doors, one member has mentioned they knew someone who’s tort got their head crushed in a door jam😣, flipping hazards, smooth services, the list goes on and is endless.

I promise we just want the best for all of you moving forward❤️appropriate separate enclosures for these two is the absolute best thing you can do for their future well being, I hope we can all be here to help🥰

I am so happy!!!!!!
Keep them HOME.
At least they are safe and with their familiar surroundings and YOU!!!!
I am keeping them in my prayers and thoughts until you tell me they are back to normal!!!
I WILL NOT give up hope and neither should you!
Maybe make them walk around a lot so that terrible medicine can work it’s way out of their system?????
ASK ONE OF THESE EXPERTS ON HERE IF THATS RIGHT FIRST!!!!!
I don’t want you to do something I said and compromise the situation any further.
Oooohhhhh!!!!!….. I am sooo very happy they are HOME!!!!
