Hello everyone.
I've read that within the Greek Tortoise species, there are a several subspecies.
Golden, Ibera, Antakeyensis, Anamurum, etc.

And then within those subspecies, there are different categories based within region of origin of a subspecies :s :s

My question concerns the Ibera subspecies.
There are darker colored Iberas, lighter, I've heard of there being a northern, southern, south eastern, etc.

How many regional categories are there for the Ibera subspecies?
Or are there way too many to list? Lol

And how can one tell the difference (physical characteristics) between a Northern or Southern species of Ibera?

Would there be a way of categorizing our hatchling aside from a standard Ibera Greek?? :)

Would be nice to find some answers.
I will research this as well.

Seeing as the physical look of many iberas differentiate a lot within the same subspecies, it would be great to know what regions affect what physical characteristics :D
Thanks for the reply!

So I think it is a Ibera. My one has the same head drawing. The black color with some yellow in the middle. The parents of my one are really old wc from Bulgaria. But there are so many different opinions by identify gracea subspecies.. My gracea is now 4 years old and she/he lose this head drawing a little bit... So you have to look in the future what happen.. It also could be testudo gracea terrestris. They have sometimes a similar head drawing like yours. But in the baby age you can't identify the subspecies so good like when they are adult.. So waaait :-D
But I'm to 95% that you've got an Ibera.

Thank you very much for your reply :)
Yes he is indeed an Ibera, but what I was referring to is that there are also different types of Iberas.
Such as Northern Ibera
Southern Ibera,
South Eastern Ibera, etc.

So I was wondering what kind of Ibera this little one was? From what region

So yours has the same head spot on the top??
Lol when I first got my tort I thought the black marks on the top of his head were his nose!! Lol :s

Haha didn't know until a week later they were just marks & his real nose was at the front of his face.
Thanks again for your reply! Really appreciate it :D

Yes you're right there are different types... But to identify them is very difficult when you haven't got paperwork of the region or genetic..
But maybe your animal come from Bulgaria but I don't know...
I can post pics of my one after hibernation so you can see the head drawing.

No I can't post picture. I haven't contact to the breeder...
No there are at least 2 types. Ibera has the biggest habitat of gracea. They live in Bulgaria some parts of other east European county's. Also in the hole turkey. In the turkey live in one part of. The country (Anatolian) a other kind of gracea- Anatolian giant-. This kind belongs to gracea Ibera..
This is like the geochelone elegans. You've got two different types too but they only have one name.
