Hello, I'm really confused as to whether I get health insurance for my tortoise or not! Milo is nearly 3 and lives indoors. Without doubt if he lived outside where he would be more likely to get illnesses I would definitely get him insured, but with him living inside I'm not sure whether I do or not! He's a horsefield tortoise and he's in good health with good growth. Is it worth getting it or not? He may cost me a fortune! Please help me!

Hi Chelsea and welcome to the Forum!

In my opinion, I wouldn't buy a policy, I'd just set aside a few bucks each payday to cover a trip to the vet, should it happen. The hardest part would be not touching the money for other things besides a vet visit.

I don't have health insurance for any of my torts and they're all outdoor torts. They're pretty hardy animals. Aside from the occasional fecal check, my vet costs have been low to nil.

Of course, there is always the chance of a major illness or injury that could, theoretically, get very costly....
