I read somewhere that you can feed dog food to red foots. Is that true? I asked this in another thread and no one yet has answered so I’ll ask it here again: what percentage should their diet be? % of vegetables, % of fruits, % of protein?

Just an FYI. Pay attention to the time of day you post threads and the actual day. Today being a holiday will not get you quick responses. Posting too early or too late won't either. Weekends imo are best posted very early or towards evening. Week days best towards evening when most are home from work. Also don't forget we are all in different time zones.

Feed low fat cat food once or twice a month. Make sure it has vitamin D in it.

I get my German Shepherd low fat dog food. Can I feed that instead? Is there a real difference between the two?

Just as easy to buy a critter cage and a 24 pack of some Canadian night crawlers. Just drop 2 in front of them like 2-3 times a month. Mine walks up slowly hovers above then lunges. He seems to really enjoy them. I typically don't feed them anything else that day or maybe some fruit if Im feeling generous. Just throw a few scraps of greens in the critter cage and water a bit and they live just fine.

I have a super worm colony. I was wondering if dog food could be fed as an alternative.

My redfoot refuses to eat live food of any kind. I do sometimes feed cat food.

I'd stick to low fat cat food. Not the dog food as much. Or even a hard boiled egg.

During the Summer I'm doing roughly 60% fruit, 30% plant matter with leaves and flowers and 10% protein. Including mostly dog food.
Because I have it on hand. I have a dog.
Cat food seems to be good too.
I'd stick with the high quality stuff with low ash content, etc

My cat gets bladder infections so I have to buy low Ash. Still don't like to feed it to my rfs tho. I just use night crawlers or boiled egg.

I have heard that the occasional dog food is better for RF tortoises than the occasional cat food, nutrition-wise.

I forgot about Mazuri tortoise chow.
Probably because I ran out during the winter.

Correct, dog food has a higher fiber content than cat food.

Below is the cat food that I rehydrate and the calcium power I sprinkle on it.
I’ve only heard negatives about dog food.

Can you elaborate on that? (Ingredients, nutrition, etc).
What is negative about dog food that rather isn’t in cat food?

I've used this cat food. It' freeze dried and you add water to it. Funny thing is, I also use NOW calcium, though I have calcium citrate. I also use it for my dogs.
