I have a 3 year old russian horse field tortoise and I was wondering if edible bedding would be any good for him please?
Thanks
Thanks
No I wouldn’t encourage him to eat substrate, Russians aren’t grass eaters anyway so this isn’t appropriate.I mean this stuff I currently use a mixture of Coco coir soil and top soil but was wondering if this any good just for a corner even on top of his usual substrate mix?

Maybe you could use this as a a food topper? @Alex and the Redfoot what do you think?I mean this stuff I currently use a mixture of Coco coir soil and top soil but was wondering if this any good just for a corner even on top of his usual substrate mix?
Nice idea However, primary component is grass and it's coarse cut - not very suitable for a Russian tortoise. I would try to use it in a "dry hide" - keep away from substrate and dampness and regularly check and replace to prevent mold. Many tortoises enjoy hiding in hay/straw and it can work for this purpose.Maybe you could use this as a a food topper? @Alex and the Redfoot what do you think?
