I know I have said it before, But eggs are funny things!
In the past I have hatched some funky eggs.
This I think takes the cake!
The photo shows 4 of 6 eggs that I found in Sep. 09 while taking eggs from a nest I was watching. I watched a female lay 5 perfect little white (poop covered) eggs.
While removing the eggs I felt soft dirt to the side of the egg chamber, Low & behold another 6 eggs in an older nest I had missed. (not uncommon for a 1/2 blind old guy!)
These eggs had been in the ground for a while judging from the color.
They were placed in an incubator along with the other 5 eggs.
All 5 from the first clutch have long ago hatched & are on there merry way with other happy people.
The mystery clutch has been in the incubator just hanging out while clutch after clutch hatched.
Last night I was looking at them & figured they might need to be removed.
They are showing bad signs, Black spots & 1 was getting mold.
I decided not to get into it last night.
This morning I was going to pull what I was sure were "BAD EGG's".
I think this guy felt sorry or maybe was pissed!
When I opened the incubator 1 was piped!
As if to say, "Don't you DARE!!!"
5+ months! Who'd a THUNK IT!
These eggs are FUNKY! I don't think all will hatch (from the smell of them) but I just can't throw them away now!

Yeah, I know, I could have said that faster!
I must be in touch with my inner "Funky egg"!

Almost the same thing happened with me and some yellowfoot eggs. Not the length of time, but the "funkyness" of the eggs. I would have sworn they were rotten...from the color and the smell, but they eventually hatched 3 babies. Moral to the story...never toss tortoise eggs until they either hatch or explode.

Its like he was saying "No, wait, I'm coming!"
It'll be interesting to see if the rest do anything.
Yvonne, hatch or explode?! I leave the breeding and hatching to you die hards :D
( I seem to have lost my smilies?)

Well my "Funky" egg baby left the egg on Easter morning.
Today I rinsed him, her, IT off.
I call this 1 "Stinky" cuz of the condition of the egg.
My wife says "Easter" for the day it left the egg.
We already have a "Christmas" & "Valentine" .

WOW, that is amazing!!! I will keep that in mind once I start incubating eggs myself. Tortoises are such little miracles.

Wow, talk about pipping in the nick of time. I guess what Yvonne says: explode or hatch! I once tossed a hen egg, then at the last minute opened it out of curiosity, and found I had essentially murdered a chick a few days before its hatching :-(

"Post some pictures of thos babies.....please."

I will but they need time to actually get out of the egg!
If I see a foot or something I'll get a shot. Just for you.
