I was walking around my Marginata yard this morning, & an area in the soil looked a little suspicious to me. I started digging around & sure enough there where 13 eggs in a shallow nest.
I got these guys as hatchlings in 2002 & new this might be the year.
The eggs are in the incubator with 22 Russian eggs.

The eggs are so much smaller than my Russian eggs. 3 times smaller than my largest russian eggs, & 1/2 the size of the small ones.

Finally

sweet, hope your eggs hatch, keep us posted and let us know. I never knew they laid 13 at a time pretty big for a tortoise that size, lol

Hi,
The 22 eggs are Russian from 5 WC females. Only using one small male to fertilize them, & have been getting about 80% fertility. There are more eggs in the yard but thats enough for me to market this year.
I also have a second generation CB Russian breeding group. One of them is digging some test nests. So this might be my year for CB generation 2 russians. I've been breeding them for about 10 years.

Only 13 marginata eggs so far.

PS I might have 13 little females available in a couple months. Incubator 89-90F

Its looking like 7 of the eggs are going to be good, & 6 of the babies are already spoken for.
I'll let you know if there are any more eggs.

Another update, I've stopped collecting at 29 eggs.
Four have hatched.

They are so much smaller & clumsier than my russian hatchlings. I'v been leaving them in the incubator a couple days after hatching, Its a lot easier terrain to walk on in there.

It might take me a little while but I'll get around to it.
