We recently got a young Sulcata, about a year old. I read somewhere online that you should avoid overfeeding your tortoise. How do I know how much is too much? Should I feed everyday or every other day?

Greetings! Sullys in particular are grazers....like cows and sheep, eating and roaming about all day long. A young sully is a growing sully and needs food, plenty of it forever. Don’t skip days, they don’t skip in the wilds of Sudan.

What are you feeding?

Lots of good info in the Sully section on what to feed.

Happy Torting

There's really no such thing as "over feeding" a tortoise, as long as they have a large enough space to allow for good exercise. Tortoises are hard wired to wander great distances while grazing. They stop eating when their stomach is full.

Hello and welcome. There is a lot of misinformation about this species. A lot of what you read in books or websites is wrong. The persistent wrong info is based on incorrect assumptions about how they live in the wild.

I agree with Mark and Yvonne. They should be able to graze on the right foods, freely, all day.
