It actually happens quite often with all the tortoises. It could be she was ready for breeding or it could be her showing off her dominance.

Hello and welcome to UKG. It isn't unusual for females to show what appears to be male behaviour.

If you would like us to confirm their gender, please post plastron (under shell) shots of both giving a clear view of the tail.

Feel free to post photos anyway... we like pictures :)

Hi there, egyptian Tortoise:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

What would you like us to call you?

...and may we know where (appx.) in the world you are?

Wow! Egyptian tortoises. Those are some very pretty little guys. I hope you'll share pictures of your new purchases with us.

Welcome Ramy!
Yes, more pictures please! Kleinmann's are one of my favorites.

If they are both females like you suspect, then it's probably a show of dominance as already mentioned. And it is common in tortoises.
Here's an example in Hermann's tortoises:

Hmmm. I think you may have a male there.

It would be worth starting a "What sex is my Egyptian?" thread in the pictures forum with that photo to get other opinions though

Another way to surely tell is if your tortoise ever flash his thingy after a soak/bath. My matured males do that from time to time.

i think they are a bit over crowded.. do you house them elsewhere or just there?
Is that sand in the dishes? If they eat to much of that, when it gets all over thier food,, it can cause issues..
Nice looking animals tho!
