Can my torts safely eat flowers and leaves from a potted plant that has been fertilized monthly with Miracle grow? Watered at ground level not sprayed on leaves and such. Also same question applies to potted plants that have the usual potting soil in the pot.

Even if watered from the root system, the plants then carry the nutrients up the stems to the leaves. A natural fertilizer such as one containing fish wastes is ok, such as old aquarium water (if you don't medicate the tank).

Potting soil also should be checked over carefully. Some come with granules of fertilizer or systemic chemicals to stop diseases and bugs.

I usually replant any potted plants and wait 3 months or more before feeding to be safe. You would not want to feed plants fed with Miracle grow to your torts.
