I keep it on the cool side and shallow enough that if he were to flip over he’d be able to keep his head out no problem. I know My anxiety will regret me asking this but are there other issues I haven’t thought of yet?
He would still be upside down. Possibly for hours. Many torts avoid those bowls. His water bowl should be safe and inviting. A terra cotta saucer sunk into the substrate is much safer, the right size and shape for tortoises, and the rough surface offers traction to wet tortoise feet.

I like it. I’ll change it out tomorrow. I’m sure I’ve got a saucer big enough laying around somewhere. I appreciate the advice
