Well theres a few ways to tell. Plastron and whether its concave or not but thats very inconsistent most the time. Anal scutes and shape. The best way is the tail. However the animal needs to be 4 to 6 years old to be more accurate in sulcatas. Sometimes sooner and sometimes earlier. How old is your tort?


Female left and male on the right. hard to see the concave of the plastron form this angle on the male. These guys are almost 30" so its real easy to tell. Smaller specimens are going to be little tougher, and more just a guess until pretty sizable.
