Awhile back I bought what I thought was a female 3-toed box turtle. Well today I was able to clear up the question on which sex she was because I caught my male and her mating. Now my question would be how long is the gestation period of 3-toes? I know it’s not a sure thing she will produce any eggs but I have been unable to find any information on the gestation period. Any help will be appreciated!

The female tortoise grows eggs (follicles) inside her whether or not she's with a male. When the male has fertilized the eggs, the female may hold them and wait until conditions are right, or she may nest right away. There is no correct answer to this question.

So if I understand you right a female has eggs/follicles inside of her all the time, and those eggs are just unfertile until a male fertilizes them? Then also those now fertile eggs can be laid at any time, depending on the conditions and if everything’s right?
