Hello all,

I'm really new to the Tort way of life and would like to know what would be the best breed for me? I live in Alaksa, right now it's ok to have torts outside during the day but approaching quickly it will get way to cold so I will have to keep it indoors alot of time. What's a good breed to have and maintain indoors. I have a cutsom built tank that's 46"Lx30"Wx16T so it is fairly big.

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Alaska? That's beautiful country up there. Others can tell you what is a better breed, but I can say that you probably don't want a leopard or sulcata. They need plenty of room and heat.

There are plenty of great species though, so I know you can find a good one. :)

Good luck!!

A Russian would be great. I think you'll find them very manageable and sweet.

Please explain.
I offered to foster those redfoot babies for you.
Do you HAVE redfoot babies????

Yep it is and when I get back I would like to get something, that will better suit my climate and situation in alaska, I failed to do the research with the cherrys I got and probably would have not gotten them knowing what I know now. So a few friends told me to start researching now for when I get back. that way I have a better educated desicion the next time round.
Also the breeder did contact me just 45mins ago and is going to take them back.

AH! Ok.
Sorry, I have a redfoot hatchling myself, and I didn't know what was going on since you had the other thread in the redfoots area of the forum.

I don't think you should choose a breed based on the enclosure size you have....I wish you the best and let us know if you have specific questions. Tortoises thrive outdoors and with a lot of space.
