Hi everyone,

Been taking care of Indian star tortoises for almost 6 months now. Healthy, active and having good appetite.
I've few questions regarding diet and substrate/enclosure.

Diet - Okra, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Jasmine leaves and flowers, Coriander leaves.

Please let me know if I need to include or exclude any items. I feed them once at evening.

Secondly, I've tired multiple substrates. Newspapers, dried hays, coco peat along with moss.

Initially they liked it but recently they dig through until they find the plastic or the newspaper....

Please let me know what can be done about the substrate.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Your tortoise is so very pretty!
I don't know much about Indian Stars but there are other members who do and can help you with the diet.
As far as substrate goes, orchid bark is a favorite. Cypress mulch is good too.

Hi, and welcome!

I use about 4 to 6 inches of moistened fir bark for substrate.

Welcome!

This care sheet covers all your questions about food and substrate:

Tortoises burrow to hide, relieve stress, and to keep their shells conditioned, so that behavior is normal.
