Sorry I forgot to introduce myself before posting a help question. I did give a small background in the help request, lol

Anyway, I grew up with Arkansas box type turtles. My grandparents moved to Arkansas when I was young. On my summer visits I would bring one home until I had 5, I only stopped because it began to get too hard to smuggle them on the airplane. I know, not good but I was young, that was 30+ years ago. When I moved out, my mother continued to care for them. My mother has had a couple different types of tortoises. She adopted Carl from a client's family, he went through 2 or 3 generations, he was extremely big 100-200 lbs. A kid could ride him, lol then the other she got as a hatchling (this is the one I'm getting) unsure of his age? He's around 12+ inches round. They moved to Missouri August 2017, but before the move they were able to rehome Carl with the help of their local turtle rescue. The other, think he's a California sulcata desert tortoise, named Harley? Harley and the box turtles went to Missouri. I'm hoping since they are close to where I found the Arkansas turtles she will let them migrate back. But Harley is not doing well with the weather change so at the end of this month he will be coming back to California to live with me. I'm looking forward to him, we bonded when I was there. I'm having fun doing research on how to care for him. I want to turn the yard into a safe haven for him. So I'm researching what I can plant for him and what not too. I did learn romaine is not the best daily food. (Sam's has a great price, that was my thought) No to avocados! Didn't realize there was so much to know about their diet! I've lived at my home 10 + years and luckily I've never redone my back yard so there is a lot of weeds, clover and dandelion. There is also that stickery weed that has those small round stickers. (I need to find if those will be a issue). Anyway....

I have found a lot of habitat ideas on Pinterest, can't wait... If there are other ideas I'd love to see them.

Thanks for having a source to ask questions and interact with others that have knowledge. If there are other sites that also have good resources, please pass them along.

Have a blessed day!
Sandy

Welcome!

(The 100lb tortoise was a sulcata and the one coming home to California is a desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii).

My wife and I would enjoy your stopping by for a visit with our 4 CDTs. We are on the left just west of Hwy 371.
