Hello, I’m new and need help

Hello, my Russian tortoise, Hannah, I was told by the vet that she has pneumonia… I actually think she’s having problems with her nostrils as they are totally blocked. (She’s had this problem before and one vet opened them up by drilling?) how else can I get them opened?? I feel so badly bigot her.

I would think a warm moist compress to help loosen thing up would help. Then wipe and discharge off...

How old is your tort?
Torts usually have problems because of things that we do or don't for them, so the first thing to do is to check all your temps and general husbandry. There is a lot of old and incorrect care information being circulated by pet stores, breeders and even some non specialist vets and social media sites like FB, so many of us start out making mistakes.

Hi, and welcome!

Soak the tortoise in warm water, and because you want to loosen up the gunk on its nose, jury rig some sort of tent for soaking inside - something to keep the warm, moist air inside. After about 15 minutes, wrap it in a towell and try picking out the nostrils with the pointy end of a straight pin, being very careful to not actually prick the tortoise with the pin.

I'm thinking maybe you're not keeping the tortoise warm enough. Please give us a good explanation of how the tortoise lives - lights, temperature, size of enclosure, etc.
