Welcome to the Forum!

Sammy is being kept too dry. Go to the sulcata section here on the Forum and read the "important threads" at the top of the section.

Just a preview of what you're going to read:

Baby tortoises hatch during or at the end of the monsoon season. There is plenty of tall, green grass and the dirt is moist. They don't do well when kept dry.

Yvonne said the basics. They need it hot and humid.
The Sulcata care sheet will help you.
So will,

When they are raised improperly hydrated it damages their internal organs. Sometimes, to the point beyond repair and then they go downhill and pass. I've lost 3 babies to this.
Hydrate your guy well, set him up in an enclosure to simulate the African monsoon season and watch him thrive! :)

Re: HELLO. :) NEW HERE SULCATA MOM

hey there! welcome to the forum!! i love when tortoises are gifts, i would LOVE that.

just study the previous links and you'll be raising a healthy baby soon :) something you can do for the eyes immediately is soak your tort in a tub he cannot see or get out of with warm water. improving on your husbandry and enclosure is the ultimate cause but i understand that may take a couple days to fix so in the meantime soak your baby 3 times a day and make sure the water doesn't get cold or your baby could get sick.
