Hello my name is Carlos and i have just joined the tortoise community. Yesterday i bought 2 little sulcata babies the gentlemen who sold them to me said they are about 2 months old. I was wondering at what point do this tortoises change in life stages. at 2 months old are they still considered a baby or a toddler? when would they move to their next stage of young adults and then to full adults? Oh and they do not have their yolk sac at all. Thanks in advance for any help and advice and look forward to reading many of the articles and posts on here to help me take care of this little guys. and i do know that in a decade they should grow to well over 50 pounds.

almost forgot i also have 2 RES turtles that i have had for about 10 years.

Hello and welcome. If things go well, they will pass the 50 pound mark in 5 years.

The first thing to understand is that most of the info out there in the world for these guys is wrong. It was based on incorrect assumptions about how and where they live in the wild and its been all wrong for 3 decades.

The next thing to understand is that they should never live as pairs. Groups of juveniles can sometime work, but not pairs, so you will need to be setting up two enclosures.

Here is the correct care and feeding info. After reading these, please come back and ask all your questions, and feel free to ask for more explanation of any of this.

Welcome to the Forum!

I think everyone's concept of age is different, but here's my take on it:

Hatchling = the first year
Yearling = the second year
Juvenile = after the second year
Full grown = when the tortoise has reached his full size
