We just adopted a new tort. Gobi.... I wanted to plant some grass for him, but home depot only has chemicalized seed???? Where can I get just plain seed???

You're correct in thinking you need to plant the tortoise's pasture now. If you wait until he's big, it's hard to keep him off it while it grows. I shop online for grazing mixtures and usually buy stuff that you plant for deer and rabbits. It's pretty cheap and has a very nice mixture of seeds in it. Much better than pasture mix, because it contains weeds that the deer and rabbits like. To this I'll add some of the seeds sold by tortoisesupply.com or carolinapetsupply.com. But they are much more expensive than the deer seed, but nice to give a little extra to the mix.
