Hello Everyone,

My Name is Melissa. I just got my first tortoise 3 days ago and thought it would be a good idea to join a forum in case I have any questions or run into any problems along the way. My tortoise is named Short Round or Shorty for short. He/she is a leopard tortoise. I am not positive of Shorty's age because a co worker gave the little tyke to me (long story but in short... shorty needed a home). Shorty can't be to old tho because there is a little dried something on the bottom of his/her shell that looks kinda like a umbilical stub on a human baby.

Shorty is not the first tortoise i have cared for. I was a foster mom to a sulcata about 5 years ago. Tucker was turned into the animal rescue I volunteered with because he had a cleft pallet. I took care of him for almost a year. I am excited to now have a tortoise of my own. I have spent the last three days doing research online and on this forum. anyhow, I look forward to picking your brains and getting to know some of you :)

Melissa and Shorty:tort:

Welcome
He does look young and if the egg sac is just dried, then probably only a couple of weeks old, Feel free to ask questions.

Here is a pic of Shorty's plastron. I took it just after his morning soak, that's why he is all wet.

Thank you everyone!

dmmj, I am sure i will have a few questions :)

dee11 and skymina, thank you! :tort:

Hello and welcome. Yep that is definitely a young one. AZ is a great place to raise leopards and sulcatas.
