My name is Heather. I just found you guys a few days ago and soo glad I did. I have a baby sulcata named Tershious who is 3 inches long. I got him 4 months ago, he is my first tortoise. I also have an iguana, my husband has two ball pythons and my son keeps poison dart frogs. We also have a dog a rabbit a parakeet and every stay cat in the neighborhood that comes to get fed on the porch. Its like a zoo around here.

Welcome to the Forum Heather!

Well, Zoos are not uncommon on this site! So you have a baby Sulcata huh? I take it your Zoo has a nice back yard? Before you go much further, you should read this link!

http://www.turtlerescues.org/sulcata_challenge.htm

I hope Rebecca (Brinnandgupta) doesn't mind, but I got these links off of on of her post. Everything you need to know to raise a good healthy Sulcata.

I'm about to hit you with a whole bunch of links
Here is one about what type of enclosure is best
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-Clos...z1hkZxITMK
Its called a "closed chamber" enclosure where you have the lights inside the enclosure and the top completely covered. Wonderful for humidity.

Now here are two caresheets
This one is for sulcata and is amazing
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-How-...z1iXaY0Axh
This is for leopards but its equal good. Leopards and Sulcatas are both desert species and raised pretty much the same way
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-Leop...z1iXaY0Axh

This one is about the hatchling failure syndrome and how to avoid it and notice signs of it
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-Hatc...z1iXaY0Axh

Now for the threads about Pyramiding
These were both created by Tom who wrote the Hatchling Sulcata care sheet above
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-The-...z1iXaY0Axh
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-The-...z1iXaY0Axh

You should look over all these links They are extremely helpful and written by pros who have been keeping tortoises for a very long time.
If you still have questions after reading them come back and ask away lol

Yep we have a nice back yard. looks like I have a lot more reading to do.I've already learned quite a few things from here.I was told by the breader I got him from, to keep him on alfalfa pellets. I now know that is wrong. No wonder he was starting to show some pyramiding. I've since swiped the humidifier from the frogs for him till I can get him some better substrate.

Zamric your links don't work lol
You can't copy and paste them from a post because you don't get the whole link , you have to hit reply and then copy and paste :) that way you get the whole link
These links will work :D

Here is a care sheet that is really important and will make your sulcata grow up to be super smooth and extremely heathly if you follow it
It's how I raise my babies
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-How-To-Raise-Sulcata-Hatchlings-and-Babies#axzz1i4Ds8pC6

This one is about best way to house them if you can
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-Closed-Chambers#axzz1hkZxITMK

Here is another care sheet that works well for sullies too.
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-Leopard-Tortoise-Care-Sheet#axzz1i4Ds8pC6[hr]
This link is really important because it tells you about hatchling failure syndrome and how to prevent It
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-Hatchling-Failure-Syndrome#axzz1i4Ds8pC6

These are both threads about pyramiding
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-The-End-Of-Pyramiding#axzz1i4Ds8pC6
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-The-End-Of-Pyramiding-II-The-Leopards#axzz1i4Ds8pC6[hr]
